Nurturing today's talents to build tomorrow's Africa

The Mohammed VI University (UM6P) has been built in Ben Guerir near Marrakech in Morocco with the aim of modernizing the country. This institution of higher education with an international vocation is connected to the network of universities, schools, institutions and international industrial players. A modern university that seeks innovation in the training of Moroccan entrepreneurs of the future. New talents of today to lead the Africa of the future.

The building is the work of Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura de Barcelona in collaboration with the Moroccan architect Elie Mouyal, this team won the international competition in 2010 organized by the OCP group, a leading company in the extraction and transformation of phosphates. This work is a milestone in the ambitious Mohammed VI Green City project.

In 2016 the Ricardo Bofill Workshop contacted Signes to commission us to design and study the needs of the University signage that was already under construction. Signes has been collaborating with the Bofill team for years and we are honored to have their trust.

The Concept Design was developed following the obvious references marked by the architecture, the path was clear and our proposals immediately fit with the architects’ criteria. We agreed to design the family of signs that would meet the University’s signage needs.

Large totem poles welcome students and users of the building, which, with the help of directional foot wayfinding directories, allow vehicles to locate the various parking lots and pedestrians to find the entrances. The rest of the signs throughout the building make it easy to locate classrooms, rooms, offices, halls and other rooms. The project has been carried out in several phases since the surface area of the university is 17 hectares. The official inauguration by the King of Morocco took place in 2017.
