A large health park on Barcelona's coastline

Hospital del Mar is a hospital with more than 100 years of history. It was inaugurated in 1905 and in 2005 received the Creu de Sant Jordi in commemoration of its centenary.

It is a small hospital with 400 conventional beds and modern facilities: multipurpose boxes, consulting rooms, operating rooms, delivery rooms and diagnostic cabinets.

Given its architectural configuration, it is immersed in a relevant expansion project, which will double its current dimensions, in order to continue covering the health needs of Barcelona’s maritime neighborhoods.

Signes won the public tender for the hospital signage needs study project to identify the new building and the access routes to the new hospital.

Signes’ team of wayfinding technicians developed a chromatic system to identify the different areas and accesses, designing a family of signs that facilitate circulation through the new facilities: directional totems, general and floor directories, directional signs, pictograms, positional signs, a set of signage elements that help the hospital user to recognize the spaces, facilitate the understanding of the new facilities and help locate the new hospital.

The signage was complemented with specific signage for children in the pediatric area. Friendly and nice graphics designed by Merçè Núñez Mayoral, manufactured and implemented by Signes to help the youngest users of the hospital to feel at home.
