Feed the talents of today, to build the Africa of tomorrow

In Ben Guerir in the vicinity of Marrakech in Morocco, the Mohammed VI University (UM6P) was built with the aim of modernising the country. This higher education institution with an international vocation is connected to the universities, schools, institutions and international industrial actors network. A modern university that seeks innovation in the training of Moroccan entrepreneurs of the future. New talents of today to lead the Africa of the future.

The building is the work of Ricardo Bofill Barcelona Architecture Workshop in collaboration with the Moroccan architect Elie Mouyal, this team won the international competition in 2010 organised by the OCP group, a leading company in the extraction and transformation of phosphates. This work is a milestone within the ambitious project of the Green City Mohammed VI.

In 2016, the Ricardo Bofill workshop contacted Signes to commission the design and study of the signage needs of the University that was already under construction. Signes has been working with the Bofill team for years and it is an honour for us to have its trust.

The Concept Design was developed following the obvious references indicated by architecture, the path was clear and our proposals fitted in with the criteria of the architects. We agreed to design the family of signs that should solve the signage needs of the University.

Some large totems welcome students and users of the building, which with the help of directional footboards allow vehicles to locate different parking spaces and pedestrians to find the accesses. The rest of the signs distributed throughout the building, allow locating the classrooms, rooms, offices, lounges and the rest of the departments easily. The project was carried out in several phases since the university area is 17 Ha. The official inauguration by the King of Morocco was held in 2017.
