Museo del Prado

Madrid. Spain

One of the best museums in the world

We have had the trust of this client for many years. Since we manufactured the signage for the unique Jerónimos building expansion, designed by award-winning architect Rafael Moneo, we have strengthened our already firm relationship with the museum. The Moneo project began in 2007, expanding the museum by 14,500 m². With its labyrinth of corridors connecting to the adjoining service building, we took on the challenge of finding the most suitable solution that would befit the delicate operation to implement the signage throughout its unique, majestic spaces.

In the Museo del Prado, less is actually more. Under this premise, industrial solutions were suggested for the most emblematic pieces, working with a unique material - bronze. The building facade itself, which had been designed by the architect, provided us with a graphic resource that we were able to use: the adjoining stones overlapped with the graphic itself, making a subtle horizontal incision in the text, which we incorporated into the interior signage to achieve the same continuity that Moneo used in the granite chosen for the main entrance.

Exterior scrolling displays were made, as were gate decorations, positional texts, pictograms, sign-holders, mailboxes, directories, display cases and tablecloths, not to mention the signage for internal (back of house) areas, which in the case of this museum is very important for employees working in offices and warehouses.
