Hospital de Sant Pau

Barcelona. Spain

The largest modernist space in the world

The modernist complex of the Hospital de Sant Pau is the largest space of its type in the world from that period. Designed at the beginning of the 20th century by the Catalan architect Lluís Domènec i Montaner, it houses nineteen pavilions serving various hospital functions.

Faced with this colossal challenge, the most important factor for creating signage for this unparalleled exterior space was to know what not to do.

The signage project was carried out with maximum respect for the architecture, using the most suitable materials for this unique and historical environment.

Working completely in tandem with the architects that began refurbishing ten of the pavilions in 2009, Signes designed, manufactured and installed the exterior signage of the whole facility in 2016, using laser technology to perfectly assemble high quality materials and finishes such as stainless steel, burnished brass and aluminium.

With the end result achieved, our company is proud to have been a part of the restoration process by producing the signage for this World Heritage site.
