Signes at Madrid Design Festival 2020

On the occasion of the Madrid Design Festival 2020, Signes has participated in a meeting between Spanish companies that promote international competitions and awards to support emerging talent in different fields of creation such as design, interior design, architecture and artistic crafts. In addition to the company who has organized the festival, Andreu World, the companies who have participated with Signes among others are Cosentino, Roca and the Loewe Foundation.

Signes organised the Signes Awards between 1995 and 2005 in order to promote and concern the students of the last year of design schools for the research of the new archetypes in the field of implementation of Corporate Identity and Signage Design.

In its last editions the call became international and was organized by Signes Foundation (whose purpose was the promotion and development of design, centered in graphic and industrial, especially supporting design students or designers who begun in the exercise of their profession).

The juror was integrated by names of national and international prestige like Ron Arad, Mario Eskenazi, Alan Fletcher, Juan Gatti, Javier Mariscal, Oliviero Toscani, Fernando Gutiérrez, Juli Capella, Josep Maria Mir, Pati Núñez, Alberto Anaut, Italo Lupi, Jorge Wagesberg, Carlos Rolando, Jaime Hayón, Óscar Tusquets, Erik Spiekermann or Luis Morillas, among others.

One of the singularities of Signes Awards was the design of the trophy which was renewed in each edition. It was signed by top-level designers (Pepe Cruz Novillo, Óscar Mariné, Alberto Corazón, Isidro Ferrer, Daniel Nebot and Ettore Sottsass among others), three unique pieces were manufactured for the categories of gold, silver and bronze.

It initially awarded three prizes worth 6,000 euros, which were later replaced by something much more valuable: a professional opportunity, a scholarship to work six months in companies like Fabrica (Benetton), Interaction Design Institut Ivrea (Olivetti) or the Mariscal Studio.
