Tourist signage of an entire country: Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is a country of great cultural, geographical and climatic diversity. Located in the Caucasus region, its territory offers visitors a wide variety of landscapes, ranging from consolidated urban areas to rural, mountainous and coastal environments. In this context, and with an emerging tourism growth such as Azerbaijan’s, a coherent, inclusive and easily recognisable signage system is required, one capable of operating at a national scale while adapting to highly diverse local conditions.
Given the wide diversity that characterizes the region, the signage system had to reflect the idiosyncrasies of the place, in addition to guaranteeing legibility, durability and consistency. To achieve this, we prioritized a clear and hierarchical graphic design, optimizing readability from a distance and in adverse weather conditions. For industrial production, we selected highly resistant materials, suitable for outdoors and able to withstand extreme variations in temperature, snow, wind and solar radiation.
The project resulted in a comprehensive, coherent, durable and accessible national tourist signage system that facilitates the orientation of local and international visitors, improves tourist communication and ensures autonomous travel through the territory.
