The first Universal Forum of Cultures

The Fórum Universal de las Culturas was first organized in Barcelona in the year 2004. The event pivoted over three axes: sustainable development, cultural diversity and conditions for Peace.

This first edition was organized by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Spanish Government, the Municipality of Barcelona and the UNESCO. Its origin aimed to an itinerant project replicating three years onto the city of Monterrey (Mexico). The truth is that after this edition the project ceased to exist.

The convening in Barcelona gathered over three million visitors and over six million people participated in the group of actitivies of the Forum from May 9th to September 26th of 2004.

Signes actively participated in this project since the beginning collaborating with project director architects.

The graphic design and visual communication was brought about by prestigious designer América Sánchez. The prime feature of this project was sustainability and the fabrication of transient elements which, after the event, were still useful; therefore, and under this premise, all the signage elements were designed by using economic and reusable design materials and solutions.

The project made by Signes scoped the totality of the venue, 30 hectares, including a jetty over 800 meters decorated with the corporate style of the event. The totems /seats oriented towards all destinations and their future usefulness as an International Convention Center. An enormous project fabricated 100% by Signes and a challenge which was overcome in the constricting deadlines we accepted.
