Paranimf. Barcelona’s Industrial School
The current enclosure for the Industrial School of Barcelona was born during the turn of the XIX century as a great wires and cotton fabrics factory. Despite having an ephemeral factory life, it was highlighted during that period due to its great dimensions and edification quality. Today, 150 years later, after many restoration, reuse and conservation interventions carried out by Barcelona's Deputation, it is still possible to enjoy its impressive architectural, modernist and industrial heritage.
The central element of this new cultural complex is a versatile auditorium with several adjoining rooms that complement it, on which it rises a spectacular dome with a 20 meter diameter. The rehabilitation of the Paranimf was aimed at the recovering of the original elements -such as the wood of the ceiling or the windows-, and maintaining the main features. Product of the ongoing 2017 intervention, a space of great artistic value and equipped with the most advanced technology was reborn; additionally to be used for different purposes as shows, conferences, congresses or civic events.
